WHAT CAUSES A LEAKING OR BLOCKED TOILET?
A clogged drain can be caused by the accumulation of waste. For example, forcing food down your kitchen sink, letting hair flow down the shower drain, allowing oils to wash away, and flushing things which aren’t toilet paper.
Each of these different areas are connected to your drain system. Improper usage with one item may lead to blockage for your entire system.
However, there can also be more serious problems. One example is root intrusion in your drain system. As tree roots grow, they can begin entering your drain pipes. This is especially the case if your drain system is old and has developed cracks over time.
Leaking drainscan be caused by cracked pipes, blocked drains, and other damaged plumbing sections. Even a small amount of damage can become exponentially worse in a short span of time. The reason for this is due to the extreme water pressure that your plumbing system experiences.
Cracked drains can be caused by underground movements, shifting building foundations, and corrosion (if your pipe is metal).
The best way to avoid leaking drains is to reach out to an expert when you experience any plumbing issues. This way, you can solve the problem before it becomes a much bigger and more expensive job to fix.
A quick test for clogged toilet drains
1.
Allow your water to start running from a few sinks (kitchen, bathroom, etc)
2.
Observe your toilets and keep an eye out for bubbling, sounds, or a change in the water line
3.
Repeat this process with other water appliances such as bathtubs, washing machines, and dishwashers
