When do you need an emergency plumber?

Flooding

Flooding could be due to a burst pipe including a Flexi pipe, sewer backup, or water shut off valve failure, these are all examples of plumbing emergencies.

Flood damage can cause significant damage to structures and is a safety concern, therefore should be addressed as soon as possible.

Sewerage waste coming back up

When a sewer line backs up, sewage sits at its backup point, creating a health hazard. It prevents the ability to use the facilities or run water, which makes living difficult as well.

You are without water

Not having access to running water is also a safety concern because, like a sewer backup, prevents you from using the facilities, but also affects cooking and cleaning. Melbourne water is clean and reliable and so should your house plumbing. If you’re without either hot or cold water an emergency plumber should be engaged if you can’t source the problem.

Burst Pipe

Frozen pipes and/or spigots lend themselves to two of the above concerns: risk of flooding and no water. If a pipe is frozen, not only is water not able to pass through it, but it expands, causing it to crack, which means once it thaws, it presents the risk of flooding. It’s important to know where your water shut off valves are located and how they work. As your plumber during his or her preventative maintenance visit to show you, if you don’t already know.

No hot water or cold water

Having running water is required for a lot of aspects of daily life. Without hot or cold water could be a safety concern and should be considered an emergency.

Other Plumbing Issues

If you find that you can isolate the water such as a leaking toilet or leaking kitchen tap, then it isn’t a true emergency and you should consider calling the plumber during normal hours to reduce your costs. You’ve got to consider that just because your emergency plumber arrives after-hours, or on a holiday or weekend, doesn’t mean they will have access to the required parts to complete the job. You might have a roof leak during a storm but a plumber won’t be able to gain access to the roof. Your emergency services such as SES in Melbourne would be able to assist in this situation and you can call your local plumber today.

The benefit of waiting for a standard business day is that plumbers then have access to supply houses which allow them to get the exact parts and supplies needed to do the job. Other than needing to order a specialty part, plumbers can get the needed parts the same day to do a repair job.

A Common Types of Drainage Issues

Leakage in cracked pipe

Blockages

Blockages are one of the most common drainage issues.

This could stem from the usual build-up of scum and soap to foreign objects blocking the drainage pipes

Gaps in pipes

Gaps in pipes are usually caused by ground movement or movement within a property. Gaps in pipes could cause both fresh water and wastewater leaking into surrounding areas. This could have long term server impacts on a property if not resolved early.

Cracks in pipes

Cracks and broken pipes are similar to gaps in piping. Cracks and breakages in pipes usually occur from ages and wear and tear. These could be tricky to locate and most likely found underground or ceilings and walls. CCTV drain cameras are the best way to locate leaks which aren’t easily located.

Root Intrusions

You should never underestimate the strength of roots. They are always growing and seeking nutrients. Pipes are full of what roots are looking for. They can pierce through pipes easily over time. Roots can continue growing in the pipes leading to blocked piping. Jets can remove younger roots.

Pipe Burst: What Should You Do?

Pipe Burst Repairs
Imagine returning home to a burst pipe. You see your house literally flooded with water, and you stand there clueless to what actually happened.

It is so deadly, even in imagination, right?

Such mishaps call for critical, time-sensitive measures to be taken immediately. Do you know what you should be doing if a pipe bursts at your place?

Here are three steps you should ideally be taking:

The very first step you should do is shut down your water supply to that particular line. Go to the major water faucet in the house and turn it off as soon as possible. Additionally, the power should be turned off in the area of the house where the flooding has happened.

After that, do a thorough inspection. Even if the source of the broken water pipe leak is just a broad region, make an effort to determine where the leak originated. If the pipe is located within your home, remove any standing water as soon as possible to prevent further water accumulation.

Meanwhile, you are evaluating stuff, call an emergency plumber to your place as soon as possible.

Call in the professionals to perform the restorations and repairs.

Make an appointment with a competent plumber to repair and replace any broken pipes, and if you see any disruption to your power system, you must call in a professional technician.

Toilet flusher broke on me this morning. Communication with this company was great! Nick reached out to me first with a rough timeframe when someone would be around (same day). That someone was Gary, who first called asking for more details and I was I was able to provide photos. He gave me a more specific timeframe for his arrival, which he stuck to, and then he showed up with all the parts and tools he needed on hand, knowing exactly what needed to be done, no surprises. He was fast, professional, friendly, and cleaned up everything when he finished. Highly recommended! Cheers Gary!

We called Pinnacle Plumbing when we discovered a very serious water leak at our house, and we happily recommend them to anyone in Brunswick East and the surrounding suburbs. Despite contacting them after hours, Jay arrived within half an hour of my call and was able to quickly identify the problem, prevent it from becoming a total disaster, and tell me what needed to be done. Jay and Gary were back at 7am the next day, and within a few hours they had found the source of the leak (which was hidden underneath concrete slabs) and fixed it. They also tidied everything up beautifully. They are both lovely, and we will definitely use Pinnacle for any future problems and will recommend them to our friends. Thank you Jay and Gary!
